Traces of light

The new MAOCI catalogue 2023/24 is out here! For the first time it has been released only online. We are happy to send you the link on request

Watch out - because this year MAOCI follows the traces of light! Where? In the brand new 2023/24 catalogue published today. After last years great success, the current MAOCI catalogue 2023/24 is again published three months earlier than usual. On 250 pages you will find more than 1000 items of cast iron, porcelain, glass and matcha - including more than 100 new products.

The MAOCI creative department, in collaboration with photographer Conny Kurth, once again set new standards for the design and staged the items in an unusual way by using light painting. In front of a black background, various traces of light let the teapots, teacups, matcha bowls, porcelain and glass products shine in an exciting and beautiful way. Photographs were only taken at night with the help of a specially arranged photo studio. This resulted in unique pictures in which - just like with the MAOCI articles - no one exactly resembles the other.

With the new catalogue, MAOCI, as a modern company, is also stressing the desire for sustainability. For the first time, it appears exclusively as an online catalogue. With that MAOCI wants to show its contribution for saving valuable resources. The catalogue can now be viewed not only from different devices, regardless of location. It has also been designed to be interactive for an easier and more intuitive handling.

Curious? Then we would be happy to send you the link to the MAOCI catalogue 2023/24. Simply contact us via e-mail (info@maoci.de) or by phone (+49 (0) 234 - 36 93 97 70).

The warmer Nara and the holy deers

Nara is MAOCI's most popular warmer. But did you know that there are also the holy deers of Nara?

The city of Nara, located in the south of the Japanese main island of Honshu, is populated with around 400,000 people and around 1,200 deers. To find the reasons why the deers of Nara are still worshiped today, you need to go back thousands of years in the Japanese history.

Once Nara was an important residential city and the famous Fujiwara family owned an ancestral shrine there that still exists today and is known as the Kasuga Shrine. As it is usual for a sacred shrine, the Fujiwara family also had theirs protected by deities, in this case riding on deers. Deers had a great value to the Fujiwara family. The animals were under their special protection and were not allowed to be hunted. So the deers were able to live freely around the Fujiwara estate and shed their natural fear of humans.

Today the deers live among the people of the city and seem to feel at home. The preferred habitat of them is still the forest near the Kasuga shrine. But you can also meet them on all squares and streets in the city of Nara. The animals are exceptionally trusting, mingle with people and allow themselves to be fed with rice cakes that are baked especially for them.

Have we aroused your interest in the warmer Nara and other cast iron products from MAOCI? Then take a look into our current catalogue, which you can view here as an online lookbook. Orders can now also be placed easily via WhatsApp (order hotline +49 (0) 160 – 75 90 049). For more information, contact us via e-mail (info@maoci.de) or by phone (+49 (0) 234 - 36 93 97 70).

Matcha – the green gold

Did you know that matcha has a long tradition? More than 800 years ago, tea was brought to Japan from China by Buddhist monks

With its bright green colour, intense taste and stimulating effect, matcha tea has recently become of the most fashionable drinks. The finely grounded green tea has a long tradition. More than 800 years ago, Matcha was brought from China to Japan by Buddhist monks and used for rituals and meditation. The matcha tea ceremony was initially reserved for the nobility, Samurai and Zen monks. To this day, the ritual of drinking tea has shaped the Asian population of every social class.

Knowledge of Matcha production in Asia has been lost. Only in Japan, most likely because of its isolated location, has the secret of Matcha production has been kept and used. In modern times, the former inventors of Matcha, the Chinese, recognized how valuable this type of green tea is and cultivated Matcha in the tradition way.
