Three-Piece Masterpieces
Experience tea at the highest level – explore our new glass Gaiwans today!
At first glance, a Gaiwan may appear to be just a simple tea cup with a lid, but on closer inspection, it reveals a seamless transition from tradition to modernity. Gaiwans represent the art of traditional tea enjoyment in today’s world – and starting this year, MAOCI offers them not only in porcelain but also in glass, adding a visual delight to the tea experience!
Using a Gaiwan may seem a bit unfamiliar at first. Start by placing the lid on the Gaiwan with your left hand. Then, place the Gaiwan, complete with lid and saucer, onto the palm of your right hand. Hold the lid with your right thumb in such a way that it’s slightly open, leaving a small gap between the lid and the Gaiwan. Through this gap, the tea can be poured out while the leaves remain behind.
Tea brewed with a Gaiwan can be steeped multiple times – even black tea, which is typically unsuited to multiple infusions using traditional brewing methods. On average, three to five infusions are possible, and with exceptionally high-quality and rare teas, even up to ten. With each infusion, the water temperature is increased and the steeping time is extended.
You can find all MAOCI Gaiwans here in our Lookbook, which also contains our entire 2024 collection. For the full catalogue including pricing information, please feel free to request a copy via email (info@maoci.de) or by phone (+49 (0) 234 - 36 93 97 70).
Influencers Turn Matcha into a "Must-Have"
Matcha is trending—and MAOCI has the perfect matcha bowls and sets for you in beautiful designs
Did you know? Due to a social media hype, demand for matcha in Germany surged significantly in 2024. From January to August alone, 240 tons of ground green tea were imported from Japan to Germany, according to the German Tea and Herbal Tea Association. This represents a 240% increase compared to the same period last year.
The association attributes this boom partly to the overall rise in demand for health-conscious foods. However, the influence of social media platforms has certainly been a factor as well. In fact, popular artist Shirin David mentioned Iced Matcha Latte—a blend of matcha powder, milk, and ice cubes—in the opening line of her hit song of the year, "Bauch Beine Po." The association suggests that this track may have given matcha an additional boost in popularity.
At MAOCI, you'll find the ideal matcha bowls and sets to keep up with the trend. Our current selection includes 53 beautifully designed matcha bowls, available in various curated sets. With this range, MAOCI likely offers the largest matcha collection in Germany.
